Tokyo JCP calls for committee to look into governor’s scandal

November 27, 2013
The Japanese Communist Party Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Members Group on November 26 proposed the setting up of a special committee to investigate Governor Inose Naoki’s acceptance of 50 million yen from the medical corporation Tokushukai without interest or requirement of collateral.

The JCP on the same day sent the proposal to the assembly chair, vice chair, and all political parties in the assembly, arguing that the metropolitan assembly should establish a special investigation committee based on Article 100 of the Local Autonomy Law in order to get a clear picture regarding the governor’s scandal.

The assembly should verify whether the governor accepted the money in accordance with the Political Funds Control Act and the Public Offices Election Act, the JCP document states.

Citing the fact that the Tokushukai group, which runs hospitals and nursing-care centers for the elderly in Tokyo, receives subsidies from the Tokyo government, the JCP stressed that it is a significant problem that Inose received a lot of money from such a medical institution when he served as the vice governor.
