Japanese CP sees Crimean referendum as invalid

March 17, 2014
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat member Tagawa Minoru said, “The referendum to be conducted in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea under military pressure has no validity,” during his visit to Moscow in Russia on March 14 and 15.

He made this comment in an interview on the Internet TV station operated by the Communist Party of Russia.

He added, “The JCP disagrees with the incorporation of Crimea into Russia and the sending of troops there as these will infringe on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territory.”

The JCP secretariat was attending an international meeting held by the CPR on the theme of “communists in congress and class struggle”. The Ukrainian issue became a topic during the meeting in which representatives from 21 communist or left-wing parties took part.

On the JCP’s behalf, Tagawa explained political features in Japan differing from that in Europe where influential social democratic parties exist, and spoke about the JCP activities based on the principle of attaining a peaceful revolution through winning a majority in the parliament.
