This is how local JCP is protesting against restart of Sendai NPP

The Japanese Communist Party Kagoshima Prefectural Committee is doing its utmost to block the Kyushu Electric Power Company from restarting reactors at its Sendai Nuclear Power Plant in Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture.

With all reactors in Japan now offline, the Abe government is expecting the Sendai plant to become the first one to resume operation, and is pushing the Nuclear Regulation Authority to finish the safety examination of the NPP as quickly as possible. Governor Ito Yuichiro is said to accept the resumption after obtaining the approval from the prefectural assembly in June.

“We want to arouse the public movement from the reactor-hosting city opposing nuclear power generation. By all means at our disposal, we will stop the move to restart the reactors at the Sendai station,” Katsurada Seiki of the JCP prefectural committee said.

The prefectural committee printed 100,000 copies of a leaflet detailing the risks of bringing Sendai’s reactors back online, and is now distributing 40,000 of them to all the households in the NPP-hosting city.

Members of the local JCP are visiting various offices and individuals in the prefecture to hand over a written statement they issued in April condemning the plan to restart the reactors. Using cars equipped with loudspeakers, they are calling on passersby and local residents to join the action to raise their voices against pro-nuclear power groups.

The prefectural committee also plans to organize a symposium on this issue and to hold a protest rally jointly with various organizations in Kagoshima.
