JCP Yamashita talks with Cuban ambassador

May 28, 2014
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Yamashita Yoshiki on May 27 received a visit by Marcos F. Rodriquez Costa, the Ambassador of Cuba to Japan, at the JCP head office.

The Cuban ambassador offered his congratulations on Yamashita’s new position as secretariat head of the JCP and expressed hope for the further strengthening of ties between Cuba and Japan as well as between the JCP and the Communist Party of Cuba.

Touching on the JCP’s ongoing effort for “generation succession”, the ambassador explained that in Cuba young leaders are also active in promoting various tasks together with the “revolution-era generation”.

Yamashita referred to the fact that JCP’s young candidates during the Upper House election campaign last year took up issues of concern affecting many young voters such as of “black corporations”, and that that contributed to the JCP advance in that election. He stated that the party will continue making efforts to increase party strength among the youth.

The JCP executive said that public anxiety about the Abe Cabinet’s intent to build a war-fighting Japan is growing, and that the party is increasing its struggles to stop that move.

The ambassador in response said that the JCP’s activities and its political analyses are very useful for the embassy in its endeavor to accurately understand Japan’s political climate.
