JCP Tamura: Japan-China friendship association can act as catalyst for better relations

June 18, 2014
The Japan-China Friendship Association (Chairman Nagao Mitsuyuki) on June 14 and 15 held its 63rd annual convention in Tokyo with attendance of 240 people, including delegates from across Japan.

The convention took place at a crucial moment when Prime Minister Abe is pushing forward with his attempt to enable Japan to use the collective self-defense right by revising the constitutional interpretation under the pretext of the threat of China. The 240 participants resolved to thwart Abe’s aggressive intent to change the nation into one capable of fighting wars abroad.

Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Tamura Tomoko delivered a speech as a guest.

Citing that since its foundation the organization has been working to prevent confrontational situations from occurring between the two nations, Tamura said that the organization’s effort is significant “to mend the current bilateral relations and to scrap the Abe government’s attempt to turn Japan into a nation fighting wars abroad.” She also expressed her hope for further development of the association.

The meeting elected a new leadership, including re-electing chair Nagao Mitsuyuki.
