JCP announces campaign pledge for nationwide local elections

February 13, 2015
The Japanese Communist Party on February 12 announced its platform for the nationwide local elections scheduled for April. At a press conference in the Diet building, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo stressed that the party’s major advance in the upcoming elections will help to meet people’s demands.

Noting that the Abe government continues its runaway policies in defiance of the popular will, Shii called on the general public to give their severe verdict to the government in the elections.

Shii raised the following points as pillars of the JCP campaign platform:

The JCP will do its utmost to have local governments play their role as a “breakwater” to protect local residents from anti-people policies promoted by the central government. Local administrations should stand up to the state’s policy to slash social welfare services overall, instead of following orders without question.

The JCP demands that local governments abandon their failed policies to spend a lot of taxpayers’ money in attracting investment from large corporations, and encourage local industries by supporting small- and medium-sized businesses.

The JCP calls on local autonomous bodies to intensify preparations for disasters, including support measures for evacuees.

In opposition to the Abe administration’s plan to integrate local administrative functions across the country, the JCP will work harder to maintain and improve the quality of various services for local people.
