JCP Shii attends Vietnamese New Year gathering

February 10, 2007
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on February 9 attended a gathering celebrating the Vietnamese New Year (Tet) held at the Vietnamese Embassy in Tokyo.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Chu Tuan Cap in his greeting to the participants expressed his hope for further development of the friendly relations between Vietnam and Japan, and talked about Shii’s visit to Vietnam in January.

Shii in his greeting said, “It was a great pleasure for me to be able to visit a vibrant Vietnam that is rapidly developing by advancing its Doi Moi policy.”

Shii said he was deeply impressed by the fact that with the aim of taking a “path for Socialism through a market economy” Vietnam is getting its economy on track for social development, succeeding particularly in reducing the percentage of the poor, an accomplishment highly evaluated by both the United Nations and the IMF.

He also said he is delighted at the fact that Vietnam is playing an important role in ASEAN, that it is promoting diplomacy to actively build friendly relationships with any other country, and that the relations between the Japanese and Vietnamese governments are also developing.

Referring to the agreement he made with Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary Nong Duc Manh that the long-lasting friendly relations between the JCP and Vietnam be upgraded in a manner appropriate to the 21st century, Shii said that he wishes to contribute to further enriching the relations between the two countries.
