Japanese forests being bought out by foreign capital

Foreign companies have been buying up Japanese forests one after another, presumably to acquire water resources as the global demand for water is increasing.

Amid unrelenting price cut orders, many subcontractors cannot add the consumption tax to their selling prices and fall behind in the tax payment. Large corporations, on the other hand, are not only able to shift the consumption tax onto their selling prices, they get their taxes refunded.

Japan’s entry into TPP will cost 3.5 million jobs

If Japan enters into the TPP free-trade pact, 3.5 million people will lose their jobs in agriculture, forestry, fishing, and their related industries, says the Agriculture Ministry.
