JCP Dietmembers attend farewell reception for South Korean ambassador

June 17, 2022
Japanese Communist Party Dietmembers Kokuta Keiji, Kasai Akira (House of Representatives), and Inoue Satoshi (House of Councilors) as members of the Japan-South Korea Parliamentarians’ Union attended a farewell reception held on June 15 in Tokyo for outgoing South Korean Ambassador to Japan Kang Chang-il.

This event was hosted by the parliamentarians’ group and the Japan-Korea Friendship Association Federation.

JCP Kokuta, along with other political party representatives, gave speeches of appreciation.

Kokuta said, “I’d like to pay my heartfelt respect to the ambassador, because, with the help from the ambassador, the Japan-South Korea Parliamentarians’ Union and its South Korean counterpart agreed to share recognition on historical issues between the two nations based the Japan-Republic of Korea Joint Declaration which was signed in 1998 by then Prime Minister Obuchi Keizo and then President Kim Dae-jung. I’ll continue working hard to develop grass-roots exchanges and friendship between the Japanese and South Korean parliamentarians’ unions.”

The ambassador in his farewell speech said, “Since I assumed the post in 2021, I’ve received support from many people, including parliamentarians’ union members. I’m grateful for the support. Seeking to contribute to the betterment of our bilateral relationship, I’ve planted seeds in various fields. I believe their ripened stage will soon come. I’ll continue to work toward the development of the Seoul-Tokyo relations in a future-oriented manner.”
