Tamura criticizes Japanese gov’t move to discriminate against foreigners in Japan
|
Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko on July 8 criticized the Japanese government for attempting to ride an exclusionist tide.
Tamura in Takamatsu City (Kagawa Pref.) was asked by reporters about the Japanese government’s decision to establish a new organization in the Cabinet Secretariat that will serve as a command post to deal with crimes committed by foreign residents in Japan.
She in response said, “Actually, the number of crimes committed by foreigners in Japan is decreasing. The safety of all people living, working, and studying in this country should be protected, and there will be no need to set up a new government office to focus specifically on foreigners committing crimes.”
She added, “Fabricated stories are being circulated claiming that the number of crimes committed by foreigners is increasing. The government should not encourage xenophobic behavior.”
