PM Takaichi should explain to public what she promised President Trump

Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira at a press conference held in the Diet building on March 23 stated that Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae should reveal what she promised U.S. President Donald Trump during the Japan-U.S. summit meeting.

The previous day, Mike Waltz, the U.S. ambassador to the UN, mentioned in a CBS interview that the Japanese prime minister committed to providing “portions of her navy” to ensure safe shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Koike said, “PM Takaichi needs to clarify what she told President Trump and what she told him Japan can do.”

Referring to Foreign Minister Motegi’s remarks on the possibility of dispatching SDF vessels to the strait for mine clearance after a ceasefire, Koike stated, “That is something the United States should handle as the country that started this unlawful war alongside Israel.”
