Hibakusha group sends US President Obama letter of protest against subcritical nuclear test
|
The Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers’ Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) and the Japan Council against A&H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) on December 7 sent letters to U.S. President Barack Obama, protesting the latest subcritical nuclear test.
Hidankyo in the protest letter criticized the test for indicating U.S. willingness to maintain the capability of the use of nuclear weapons as a deterrence. The Hibakusha group calls on the U.S. government to sincerely accept the U.N. first committee’s “Joint Statement on The Humanitarian Dimension of Nuclear Disarmament”. It also demands that the U.S. play a leading role in negotiations for an international treaty banning nuclear weapons.
Gensuikyo requested the president to cancel all nuclear test plans and work faithfully to achieve a total ban on nuclear weapons and create a world free from nuclear weapons.
