Abe government's forcible landfill expansion encounters fierce protest from Okinawans

Okinawans staged various protest actions, including an on-sea protest and a rally on Henoko beach, in protest against the Abe government which went ahead with the landfill work at a new section in Henoko in defiance of the Februrary prefectural referendum results and of the governor's repeated call for a temporary suspension. Just a week ago, a dead dugong was found floating off the shore of an Okinawa village. It is believed to be one of only three dugongs which used to be observed before the Henoko project began.(Mar.25/2019, Okinawa)
