Tokyo gubernatorial race officially starts, COVID-19 crisis on agenda


The official campaign periods for the July 5 Tokyo gubernatorial election started on June 18. Backed by opposition parties, including the JCP, and a wider range of citizens, former head of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations Utsunomiwa Kenji kicked off his election campaign. In the kick-off rally, he called for the creation of a Tokyo government which wholeheartedly works to protect people's lives and livelihoods from the ongoing health crisis. JCP Chair Shii Kazuo together with representatives of other opposition parties delivered speeches to increase voters' support for Utsunomiya.(Jun.18/2020, Tokyo)
