Over 80% of people concerned about negative effects associated with climate change

July 12, 2025
Akahata ‘current’ column (excerpts)

A survey conducted by the Japan Climate Alliance (JCA), a general incorporated association, found that more than 80% of individuals believe that climate change has had an adverse effect on their personal lives.

In the same survey, 72.3% of respondents feel that the negative effects of climate change have intensified in recent years.

Asked what they considered to be the most serious impact, the respondents most commonly cited “reductions in the quality of crops, harvest yields, and fish catches”.

To a question about the upcoming election, 71.2% answered that they will pay attention to issues regarding “energy, environment, and climate change” when deciding which candidate or political party to vote for.

In the campaign bulletin for proportional representation of the currently ongoing House of Councilors election, the Japanese Communist Party is the only political party that pledges to “defuse the climate crisis”. Efforts to tackle global warming are an urgent task for humanity and all life on earth.
