The Nagasaki Day Rally took place as the finale of the 2026 World Conference against A and H Bombs in Nagasaki City in a city-owned gymnasium. The rally adopted a resolution, “Letter from Nagasaki to All Governments of the World,” calling for all countries to take urgent action toward the elimination of nuclear weapons.
A Japanese Communist Party delegation led by Secretariat Head Koike Akira was introduced to the audience.
Nagasaki City Mayor Suzuki Shiro and Nihon Hidankyo co-chair Tanaka Shigemitsu delivered speeches via video.
Hibakusha activists, a Cuban government representative, and activists from nuclear armed as well as nuclear dependent countries appeared on the stage to speak. A video message from Okinawa Governor Tamaki Denny was read out.

At the city-hosted annual peace memorial ceremony earlier on the day, Mayor Suzuki read the “Peace Declaration” which stresses, “The theory of nuclear deterrence is extremely dangerous and fragile. Nuclear weapons are not a ‘necessary evil’ but an ‘absolute evil,’ and can never coexist with humanity.” The declaration also demands that the “Japanese government must attend the first Review Conference of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) to be held later this year, and fulfill its historical responsibility as the only country to have suffered atomic bombings in war.” Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, as was in the ceremony in Hiroshima, said that the government upholds the Three Non-nuclear Principles, which merely describes the current situation. She did not touch on the TPNW.
