30th JCP Congress will be convened in January 2027

September 4, 2026

The Japanese Communist Party Central Committee at its plenum on September 3 approved the convening of the 30th JCP Congress on January 18, 2027.

The Congress will take place at the JCP Izu Study Hall in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture, from January 18 to January 22. The agenda includes partial amendments to the JCP Program, a Congress resolution and a Central Committee report, the election of a new Central Committee, and other matters.

The JCP Program will be revised with a focus on Chapter V, “For a Socialist/Communist Society.” A draft revision is currently being prepared to ensure that the revised Program is the best possible version conceivable today.

The draft Congress resolution, also under preparation, will address the global and domestic situations and outline the party’s political objectives. It will set out efforts to reverse the JCP’s downward trend in national and local elections and will reaffirm the necessity of party building centered on generational succession.

The draft amendments to the Program and the draft Congress resolution will be proposed to a Central Committee plenum slated for the beginning of next month. Following this, nationwide debate on these proposals will begin across the entire party.
