Additional 197 JCP ‘permanent activists’ buried in JCP tomb

October 24, 2026

The 41st memorial service for the Japanese Communist Party permanent activists who died over the past year took place on October 23 at Kamikawa Cemetery in Hachioji City, Tokyo. A total of 197 comrades, including former JCP Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetuzo, who died at the end of 2025, were newly buried, bringing the total number of those buried to 5,888.

After a moment of silence, JCP Vice Chair Tanaka Yu delivered a condolence speech on behalf of the JCP Central Committee.

Tanaka referred to the funeral of the late Fuwa Tetsuzo, which took place in March, and said that it served as an opportunity to express deep respect for the immense contributions made by ex-CC Chair Fuwa, both as a party leader and as a revolutionary, to promote political movements for social progress in Japan and the rest of the world and to renew the resolve to carry forward his legacy. Tanaka said that he could never forget the many valuable pieces of advice he received from Fuwa on different occasions, such as in regard to the JCP’s theoretical and international activities.

Tanaka noted that in the run-up to the 30th JCP Congress slated for January 2027, along with all-party discussions on the draft Congress Resolution and the draft amendments to the party Program, the major organizational buildup campaign is well underway. He expressed his determination by saying that the party will work hard to achieve the success of the upcoming Congress and a JCP advance in elections at the national and local levels, and to open up Japan’s future.

In conclusion, Tanaka expressed his appreciation to the bereaved family members who had shared the hardships of the deceased, and had encouraged and supported each other in times of trouble. He added that he hopes they can overcome their grief and will live in good health.

The JCP will send copies of the ceremony recorded on DVD to the bereaved families.
