3-month nationwide Peace March arrives in Hiroshima

August 5, 2019

The 2019 nationwide antinuke Peace March was greeted with a warm welcome in Hiroshima City on August 4 after walking along various routes through Japan for three months.

Braving the extreme summer heat, a rally took place after the arrival of the peace march with about 300 people, including marchers who walked all the way along the Tokyo-Hiroshima route and the anchor of the international youth relay march, participating.

National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren) Vice President Nagao Yuri on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the World Conference against A and H Bombs delivered a speech. Nagao cited that a move toward the entry into force of the UN treaty banning nuclear weapons is making continued progress across the globe. She called on the participants to work even harder to achieve the abolition of nuclear weapons.

The rally received messages from Hiroshima City Mayor Matsui Kazumi and City Assembly Chair Yamada Haruo.
