Antinuke conference will be held in NYC in April 2020

September 22, 2019

A World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen bombs will be held in Manhattan in April next year on the sidelines of the NPT Review Conference. The Global Call to hold the antinuke World Conference was announced worldwide on September 21, the UN International Day of Peace.

The Global Call stresses that the antinuke World Conference, which will take place on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the A-bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, will be the greatest opportunity for the world's people to hear A-bomb survivors' (Hibakusha) testimonies during the NPT review session.

For three days from April 24 to April 26, along with the holding of the World Conference in Manhattan, there will also be many events including peace rallies, demonstrations and parades, multireligious ceremonies, youth events, Hibakusha signature-collection actions and the submission of the signatures to the NPT Review Conference, and a festival for nuclear disarmament, peace, justice, and environment.

Promoters of the Global Call include representatives of the Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo), the Japan Congress against A- and H-Bombs (Gensuikin), and the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) as well as representatives of two international organizations and of antinuke peace movements in the U.S., Russia, the U.K., France, India, the Philippines, and Argentina.
