Shii talks with Vietnamese ambassador to Japan

August 18, 2021

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo held talks with Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam at the JCP head office on August 17. The ambassador handed Shii a letter from Vietnam's new president Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Vietnam's new Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and conveyed to Shii their messages hoping to further develop relations between the JCP and the Communist Party of Vietnam as well as between Japan and Vietnam.

Shii exchanged views with the ambassador on the latest global trend after the entry into force of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) and on global efforts to bring about a truly peaceful Asia and world.

Toward realizing a true peace in East Asia, Shii emphasized the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence in this region based on the U.N. Charter and international law while breaking away from military confrontations, arms races, and hegemonism.

The ambassador in response stressed the importance of complying with international law and making diplomatic efforts tenaciously in order to establish a true peace in the region. He expressed his hope to increase regional cooperation in addressing the issues the region faces.
