Climate parade takes place in Tokyo in solidarity with global Climate Week

September 19, 2023
In solidarity with global Climate Week which started on September 18, a parade and events calling for solutions to the climate crisis and for an end to nuclear power generation took place in Tokyo with about 8,000 people participating.

Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Tamura Tomoko, JCP members of the Lower House Kasai Akira and Miyamoto Toru, JCP member of the Upper House Kira Yoshiko, and several JCP Tokyo metropolitan assemblypersons took part in the parade.

Civic organizations "Watashi no Mirai", "Fridays for Future (FFF) Tokyo" and "10 Million People's Action to say Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants" hosted the events.

A 16-year-old high school student, a member of the FFF Tokyo, said, "Japan should move its energy sources from fossil fuels to renewables as soon as possible. No matter which political party takes power, it should implement policies to address and help prevent climate catastrophes."

Yoshida Akiko, a "Watashi no Mirai" secretary, said, "I want Japanese politics to address the issue of the climate crisis to establish a 100% renewable energy system and achieve a fair and just society which will protect the fundamental human rights for all people and will not prey on the weak and needy people."
