Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on November 21 attended a dinner held in Cambodia’s Phnom Penh for delegates to the 3-day assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) starting on November 22.
Extending greetings, ICAPP Standing Committee Chairperson Chung Eui-yong expressed his heartfelt welcome to participants of the General Assembly, and stressed that the ICAPP plays an important role as a peace forum open to all political parties working in Asia, beyond differences in political stances, and has been making good progress.
Cambodia’s Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, who chaired the 12th ICAPP General Assembly organizing committee, also delivered a speech. Stating that the ongoing intensification of military conflicts and great power competition gives him a sense of uneasiness, Sokhonn said that a genuine peace does not mean just the absence of conflict and that in dealing with conflicts, it is necessary to put a priority on dialogue and to make efforts to achieve mutual understanding and reconciliation.
Shii had friendly conversations with Chung and said that as bloc confrontations have been intensifying, the ICAPP plays a significant role. The ICAPP chair thanked the JCP for its continued participation in the ICAPP General Assembly and contributing to the ICAPP development.
Shii exchanged greetings with ICAPP Co-Chair Mushahid Hussain Syed with whom Shii deepened exchanges on various occasions, such as at past ICAPP assemblies and during his visit to Pakistan. The JCP CC Chair expressed his hope to contributed to the advances made in the 12th ICAPP General Assembly.
