JCP Koike in Vietnam attends ceremony commemorating 50th anniversary of end of Vietnam War

May 1, 2025

Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira attended a ceremony which took place on April 30 in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

On the previous day, Koike, along with representatives of world political parties which supported the Vietnamese people’s struggle for liberation, took part in a meeting with the Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary To Lam.

Asked to speak, Koike said, “The Vietnamese people’s victory in the 30 years of arduous struggle for independence and freedom made a decisive contribution to the collapse of the global colonial system which resulted from oppressed people’s protracted fight and the formation of a peaceful and democratic international order, both of which happened in the 20th century.”

He said that that victory brought about the creation and development of ASEAN and helped establish cooperation and autonomy in the region, which will be of great assistance to peacebuilding efforts in East Asia.

The JCP Secretariat Head said, “We are proud to have supported the Vietnamese people’s struggle for national independence.”

At the meeting venue, Koike exchanged greetings with the CPV General Secretary, and conveyed JCP Central Committee Chair Shii’s message. Stating that the JCP and the CPV have successfully developed friendship and cooperation, Koike said, “The JCP will continue to promote cooperation with the CPV by such means as holding theoretical exchanges and will actively contribute to the abolition of nuclear weapons and the emergence of regional and world peace.”

Lam in reply said that he hopes to further develop the bilateral ties with the JCP and expressed his determination to implement cooperation activities agreed upon between the two parties.
