Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on May 20 met with Amphay Kindavong, ambassador-designate of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Japan, at the JCP head office.
The ambassador noted that Japan and Laos are celebrating the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations this year, and that Laos attaches importance to the relationship with the JCP as well as to Laos-Japan relations. He handed over a message from General Secretary of Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith who in the message expresses his hope for a stronger relationship between the two parties.
Shii welcomed the new ambassador, and said he would like to strengthen cooperation to build true peace in East Asia and achieve a world without nuclear weapons as agreed upon at the December 2023 meeting with Thongloun in Vientiane, Laos. Recalling the discussion with Thongloun on the issue of unexploded ordnance removal, Shii said, “Our party will continue working to address this issue.”
The ambassador thanked Shii for his thoughtful consideration on the issue of unexploded ordnance removal. He emphasized that true peace is essential for Laotian development and expressed hope for stronger LPRP-JCP cooperation to promote peace.
