Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on June 30 received a visit from Iranian Ambassador to Japan Peiman Seadat at the JCP head office in Tokyo, and exchanged views on the situation associated with military attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel.
The ambassador stressed the illegality of the military operations in question and explained the damage situation. He appreciated the JCP’s fierce criticism against the outrageous act of the U.S. and Israel.
Shii said that what the U.S. and Israel have done to Iran is in total disregard of the UN Charter and international law. Criticizing U.S. President Trump for using the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to justify its attacks on Iran, Shii said, “As a political party in Japan, the only atomic-bombed country, we feel outrage at Trump’s behavior.” He said that the JCP will firmly work in an all-out effort to increase international public opinion against the U.S. and Israel, and will urge the Japanese government to criticize these two countries. The ambassador responded that Trump showed disrespect for the A-bomb survivors (Hibakusha).
The ambassador pointed out that Israeli strikes took place during negotiations between Iran and the U.S., which undermined the whole notion of diplomacy. The JCP CC Chair said that diplomacy is the only way to solve the nuclear problem. He pointed out, “The U.S. in 2018 under the first Trump administration unilaterally withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal) which was concluded in 2015. The U.S. holds the primary responsibility to have the issue return to the diplomatic track.”
Shii touched on the genocide in Gaza and increasing IDF attacks in the Israeli-occupied West Bank as an issue co-created by Israel and the U.S., and stressed the need for international cooperation in addressing this issue. The Iranian ambassador in response said that this is the issue that the international community needs to denounce in unison.
Shii recalled that the Iranian government voted for the UN Convention on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at the UN General Assembly in 2017, and expressed his hope for Iran to work with the international community to create a world without nuclear weapons. The ambassador emphasized the importance of seeking a nuclear-free world and a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East.
