Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo will appear as a panelist at one of the highlights of the 2025 World Conference against A and H Bombs. The forum, “Toward a world without war and nuclear weapons -- International solidarity among parliamentarians and citizens,” will take place on August 5 in Hiroshima City.
Other panelists include: Jeremy Corbyn, former leader of the British Labour Party, Member of Parliament and vice-chair of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND); Marc Botenga of the Workers’ Party of Belgium, member of the European Parliament; Martin Schirdewan of Germany’s Left Party (Die Linke), co-chair of the Left Group in the European Parliament; and Ann Wright, advisory board member of the Veterans for Peace, USA.
They will discuss how to promote political change in cooperation with citizens in order to achieve disarmament, the elimination of nuclear weapons, and the defense of the UN Charter.
As violations of the UN Charter and international law are becoming more and more blatant and serious as can be seen in Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran, Israel’s campaign of genocide in the Gaza Strip, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, NATO is moving to reinforce its “nuclear deterrence” posture and Japan is increasing its dependence on the U.S. “nuclear umbrella” under the Japan-U.S. military alliance.
An increase in public opinion and movements calling for disarmament, the abolition of nuclear weapons, and compliance to the UN Charter is becoming an urgent task worldwide. Forum II will be an opportunity to explore the possibilities of international solidarity.
