Shii talks with CPV politburo member

July 29, 2025
Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo held talks with visiting Communist Party of Vietnam politburo member Do Van Chien, who is also the president of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, at the JCP head office in Tokyo on July 28.

Shii looked back on JCP-CPV cooperation up to this point regarding peace issues related to both the world and region, such as creating a world without nuclear weapons and encouraging peacebuilding in East Asia. He said that the two parties have strengthened their relations through theoretical exchanges, and expressed his hope for the continued development of the JCP-CPV ties.

Chien in response said that he gives importance to the two parties’ friendship and collaboration. He went on to say that the CPV hopes to further facilitate the traditional ties of friendship with the JCP and to contribute to the abolition of nuclear weapons, global and regional peace and prosperity, and the further development of relations between the two countries and the two peoples.

Shii noted that when military actions were repeatedly taken in the Middle East in violation of international law, all G7 countries failed to appeal for the need to champion and protect the established international law-based order. In contrast, the ASEAN-led East Asia Summit (EAS) at its Foreign Ministers’ meeting in July issued the chairperson’s statement calling for an international law-based solution to the problems of the Middle East. Shii said this is a notable position difference.

Shii expressed his determination to work together with the CPV to promote ASEAN’s inclusive framework of dialogue and cooperation like the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). He raised concerns about the latest conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, and emphasized the importance of solving the conflict peacefully through dialogue. The VFF president responded that he hopes that the two countries will restrain themselves and reach a peaceful settlement without delay.

Shii said that the JCP will work to protect the rights of foreigners, including Vietnamese, who live in Japan, and fight against racism and xenophobia.
