Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Tanaka Yu, acting secretariat head of the JCP, met with Communist Party of Vietnam politburo member Tran Cam Tu, permanent member of the CPV Central Committee’s Secretariat, in Hanoi on July 31.

Tanaka expressed his concern about the current international situation where violations of international law are taking place through the use of force and arms races, and stated that the JCP supports ASEAN’s efforts to promote a culture of peace and adherence to the principles of international law. He added that the JCP is hoping to increase cooperation with the CPV in order to maintain and develop a peaceful regional order.

Tanaka congratulated Vietnam on its upcoming role as chair of the 2026 NPT Review Conference, and stated that the JCP is looking forward to working closely with Vietnam to strengthen efforts toward achieving a world without nuclear weapons.

Tanaka explained that currently in Japan, xenophobic and far-right currents are on the rise, and expressed that the JCP, as a party that has upheld friendship and peace among peoples for 103 years, will resist this growing trend. Tu expressed his support for the JCP stance.

Tu noted that JCP-CPV relations are increasing and that JCP-CPV theoretical exchanges are yielding practical results. He thanked the JCP for protecting the rights of Vietnamese workers in Japan and for advancing Japan-Vietnam relations. He expressed his hope that the JCP-CPV relationship will contribute to furthering Japan-Vietnam relations as well as peace and prosperity in the region and the world.
