Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on September 8 met with visiting Co-Chairman of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Mushahid Hussain Sayed, who heads Pakistan Senate’s Committee on Defense, at the JCP head office in Tokyo.

Shii welcomed Sayed’s visit. Shii and Sayed have been in contact since 2004 and were delighted to see each other again. They reaffirmed their commitment to working together to further develop the ICAPP.

Shii stated that it was significant that the declarations adopted at the ICAPP Istanbul General Assembly (2022) and Phnom Penh General Assembly (2024) expressed opposition to bloc politics and strongly called for peacebuilding through dialogue and inclusion. Sayed agreed with Shii, saying that that is precisely the spirit of ICAPP.

They also exchanged views on the current situation in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Shii said that the JCP in 2024 published a diplomatic proposal titled, “Proposal for Peacebuilding in East Asia -- In collaboration with ASEAN” and is promoting activities both in Japan and abroad in order to implement the proposal. He added that the party is also strengthening cooperation with European left-wing parties against the massive military expansion and rise of xenophobia.

Sayed said he knows that the JCP is truly independent and not subservient to any major power, and thanked the party for always providing positive input on key issues at ICAPP general assemblies.

Shii said that the JCP is engaged in theoretical explorations of scientific socialism and is conducting a movement to study scientific socialism and spread its theory among the general public. Sayed said in response that appealing to young people with new ideas is important.

Sayed then toured the JCP head office and met with JCP Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko. He also visited the Akahata editorial office and exchanged greetings with Akahata Chief Editor Kogiso Yoji.
