JCP supporters: That’s why I take part in lecture meeting commemorating JCP 103rd founding anniversary

September 24, 2025
Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko delivered a commemorative lecture at the party’s 103rd founding anniversary event held in the JCP head office in Tokyo on September 23. Among the audience were young JCP supporters. Akahata interviewed them about what motivated them to attend the event.

A male farmer in his 30s living in Edogawa Ward said that the impression of the JCP he used to have was that it was not worthy of trust just like the communist parties of China and the former Soviet Union. However, when he took part in a street speech given by the JCP during the June Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election campaign, he realized that the JCP is a party earnestly working to realize people-friendly policies, such as tackling the climate crisis, adding that that is why he came here. He said, “In Japan, the JCP is a minority. But I learned that Germany’s minor party, the Left Party (Die Linke), has achieved an advance through its fight against the far-right, xenophobic trend. I want to contribute to increasing people’s support for the JCP and prevent the spread of such a trend in Japan.”

A 39-year-old female photographer who lives in Ota Ward said that she took part in the event because she wanted to know how to increase public support for the JCP. She noted that EC Chair Tamura in her lecture cited a slogan of the Belgium Workers’ Party that says “there is no magic formula” for fighting against the far-right movement. The photographer said, “In my understanding, this means that it is important to steadily hold dialogue even with those who have conflicting viewpoints in order to stop the rise of far-right influence.”

An American man residing in Shibuya Ward, who works in the IT industry, said that he is interested in the JCP because it advocates that Japan should end its subservience to the U.S. government and become a truly independent country. He touched on the emerging anti-immigrant backlash and said that it is totally wrong to treat foreign nationals who work in and make a contribution to Japan as enemies.
