Pro-Constitution parties and Civil Alliance demand immediate halt to US-Israeli attack on Iran

March 4, 2026
Opposition parties resisting constitutional revision, including the Japanese Communist Party, and concerned citizens jointly held a street rally near Shinjuku Station in Tokyo on March 3, demanding an immediate halt to U.S.-Israeli strikes across Iran.

JCP Executive Committee Chair Tamura Tomoko noted that antiwar protests and opposition sentiment are spreading within the United States, calling on rally participants and passersby, “Let’s raise our voices in solidarity with the international community and tell the two countries to ‘stop the attack now’.”

Ishigaki Noriko, Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan member of the House of Councillors, pointed out that the Japanese government hypocritically claims to uphold the rule of law, “If so,” she argued, “it should say what needs to be said” to the United States and Israel. She asserted that as a nation with the pacifist Constitution, Japan should demand that both countries abide by international law.

“Okinawa Whirlwind” Secretary General Takara Sachika stressed that this war “is not someone else’s problem.” She expressed concern that U.S. military facilities in Japan could become targets if war breaks out or be used as sortie bases, and stated, “We must not be complicit in any war.”

Fukushima Mizuho who heads the Social Democratic Party noted that the U.S.-Israeli strikes could continue for four or five weeks, according to media reports. She voiced concern, “How many more lives will be lost during that time?”

Okazaki Hiromi of the New Socialist Party emphasized, “The side that started the war must be the first to stop the aggression.”

Hishiyama Nahoko, a co-leader of the Civil Alliance, called for action, “Let us join hands with as many people as possible who strive for peace and rise up against the war.”
