JCP Koike comments on Tokyo High Court’s dissolution order for Unification Church

March 5, 2026
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira, on March 4 in his comment on the Tokyo High Court’s dissolution order for the Unification Church (Family Federation for World Peace and Unification), said, “The organization was legally proven to be antisocial. It should offer apologies to all victims by accepting responsibility for causing them various forms of economic and emotional suffering.”

At a press conference in the Diet building, Koike stressed, “All political parties and politicians, including Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, who have had a relationship with the Unification Church must be held accountable and disclose the whole truth regarding their ties.”

He emphasized that the government should take the necessary steps to prevent the antisocial group from transferring its assets and funds to church-related organizations so that a process to provide relief to victims can proceed smoothly under a court-appointed liquidator.

Koike noted that victims along with second- and third-generations of believers who spoke out against the Unification Church experienced a barrage of slander and defamation mainly on social media. He demanded that the government properly deal with unlawful behavior such as casting a slur in order to avoid a situation where victims hold back from reporting on any misconduct.

Koike stated that thanks to long-standing tenacious efforts made by the victims and their lawyers, a big step forward towards effectively dealing with the Unification Church issue has been made by the dissolution order. He appealed for the need to make further efforts to achieve a comprehensive settlement of the issue.
