The Ministry of Defense on March 31 deployed an improved Type 12 surface-to-ship missile system at the Ground Self-Defense Force Kengun Camp (Kumamoto Pref.) and a Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectile (HVGP) system for island defense at the GSDF Fuji Camp (Shizuoka Pref.).
At the same time, the ministry renamed the former missile the “Type 25 surface-to-ship guided missile” and the latter the “Type 25 Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectile (25HVGP), respectively.
Regarding this, it is believed that the ministry designated the Type 12 missile as a new type missile due to the improvement of its capability and range.
