Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo, who is also in charge of the JCP International Commission, on April 14 held talks with Iranian Ambassador to Japan Peiman Seadat on the situation in Iran at its embassy in Tokyo.
Ambassador Seadat said that he gives particular attention to anti-war civil movements in Japan, the United States, and the rest of the world, and pointed out that these movements have driven the U.S. and Israel into isolation on the world stage and played a part in realizing the Islamabad Talks. In addition, he expressed his view that the war of aggression against Iran by Washington and Tel Aviv is likely to have a significant economic and social impact worldwide for years to come.
Ogata referred to a meeting between the ambassador and JCP Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on March 30. He explained that, based on this meeting, the JCP has conducted Diet deliberations and urged the Japanese government to make efforts that will contribute to initiating diplomatic negotiations toward ending the war.
Explaining the reason for the failure of the Iran-U.S. talks at Islamabad, the ambassador said that with the war ongoing, a wide-range of topics, including the Strait of Hormuz issue, were required to be discussed, which made negotiations complicated. As another reason, he added that the U.S. hastily made excessive, unreasonable, and unilateral demands.
Regarding Iran’s nuclear development, one of the issues covered by the negotiations with the U.S., Ambassador Seadat stressed that the peaceful use of nuclear energy is one of the fundamental pillars of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). He also emphasized that Iran adopts a stance in opposition to and in favor of abolishing nuclear weapons.
