Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on May 9 posted on his X account a comment welcoming a draft of a “final outcome document” distributed by 2026 NPT Review Conference President Do Hung Viet (Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the UN).

Shii in his X post stated that he heartily welcomed the draft which was presented by the review conference president on May 6 as it reflects the important views in the JCP request to the review conference: abide by the UN Charter and international law; criticize the inhumane nature of nuclear weapons; refrain from using or threatening to use nuclear arms against non-nuclear-weapon states; call on nuclear-armed states to fulfill their duty to eliminate nuclear arsenals based on Article 6 and past NPT commitments; and implement the resolution of the 1995 Review Conference calling for establishing a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, Shii stated that he strongly hopes that the document will be issued by consensus among the signatory countries in line with the direction as stated above.
