JCP CC Chair Shii holds talks with US left-wing progressive organization in NYC

May 1-May 5, 2026
The Japanese Communist Party delegation led by JCP Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on April 29 held talks with a socialist organization, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), at the DSA office in New York City where the JCP delegation is visiting to participate in the 2026 NPT Review Conference. They confirmed that they will establish relations of cooperation and solidarity.

In the meeting with DSA executives, including National Political Committee member Ahmed Husain, Shii stated that the JCP works on such issues as opposing the U.S. Trump administration’s lawless actions against Iran, Venezuela, Gaza, and Cuba, and establishing a world peace order based on the UN Charter; opposing massive military buildup policies promoted in Japan and the United States; removing U.S. military bases from Japan and changing the Japan-U.S. relations to a friendly and equal one; and spreading the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and realizing a world without nuclear weapons. He suggested that the JCP and the DSA cooperate on these issues. After DSA executives gave a favorable response to Shii, both sides agreed to discuss how to work together to achieve common goals.

Furthermore, the JCP and the DSA confirmed that they will promote exchanges in various areas, such as theory and study activities.

The JCP delegation during its trip to the U.S. and Canada held talks with several progressive organizations and individuals in both countries. They were the Communist Party USA; Asher Dupuy-Spencer, publisher of the leftist magazine “Jacobin” and Micah Uetricht, editor of the magazine; Illinois State University Professor Andrew Hartman; and the Chicago DSA.
