Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Koike Akira on May 14 received a visit from new Social Democratic Party Secretary General LaSalle Ishii in the Diet building. They agreed to oppose constitutional revision and a massive military buildup and further deepen the two parties’ cooperation focused on defending the Constitution.
Koike congratulated Ishii on his appointment to the post of the SDP secretary general, and said, “The fight to protect the Constitution is at a crucial point. To promote solid cooperation which firmly places the Constitution at its heart will become even more important.” In response, Ishii said, “Let us team up to expand the movement to protect the Constitution even further!”
In the meeting, they confirmed the success of street speeches held jointly with the pro-constitutional opposition parties and concerned citizens in Tokyo and Osaka. They exchanged views on joint efforts to change politics.
