Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on August 28 held talks with Nguyen Xuan Thang, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Politburo and the chair of the CPV Central Theory Council, at the JCP head office in Tokyo.

They expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the 12th JCP-CPV theoretical exchange meeting, and reaffirmed their commitment to further developing theoretical exchanges between the two parties.

Looking ahead, Shii proposed that the two parties advance their cooperation on four international issues.

The first is to uphold the UN Charter and international law in order to defend the international order of peace, and not tolerate any lawless act that violates them, regardless of which country commits it.

Second is the effort to achieve a “world without nuclear weapons.” On this issue, Shii expressed his hope that Vietnam, which chaired the latest NPT Review Conference, will continue to play a role further advancing its international standing.

Third is peacebuilding cooperation in East Asia, including efforts to realize the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Initiative (AOIP).

Fourth is international cooperation to ensure that the benefits of AI are shared by all of humanity and to prevent the risks associated with AI, such as job and environmental destruction caused by the capitalist use and misuse of AI, the use of AI for military purposes, and the potential loss of human control over AI due to a chaotic race for AI development that could even lead to “human extinction.”

In response to Shii’s proposal, Thang stated, “I fully agree,” adding, “We should raise a unified voice to the world.”
