JCP Kasai talks with German Left Party member on nuclear energy issue

February 15, 2012
Japanese Communist Party House of Representatives member Kasai Akira on February 14 had talks with Dorothée Menzner, member of the German Bundestag, on nuclear energy issues at the Diet building.

Menzner is a spokesperson regarding the energy policy of the parliamentary group of the Left Party. She is visiting Japan in order to create a documentary on the suffering of nuclear accident victims and on nationwide movements opposing nuclear power plants.

Kasai explained how the Japanese government, jointly with the business circle making profits out of nuclear energy, is moving to restart off-line nuclear reactors and export nuclear plants at a time when 51 out of 54 reactors have been shut down.

As the public demand is rapidly increasing for a society that does not rely on nuclear energy, various rallies and demonstrations will take place throughout Japan on March 11, the one year anniversary of the Great East Japan Disaster, he introdued.

Kasai and Menzner agreed to continue to exchange information and share their opinions on this issue.
