2008 October 8 - 14 [ANTI-N-ARMS]

Gensuikyo visits Egypt and Norway permanent missions to the U.N.

October 11, 2008
A Japan Council Against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) delegation visiting New York for the purpose of pushing for the abolishment of nuclear weapons on October 9 visited permanent representatives from Egypt and Norway at the U.N. headquarters and made sure of cooperation between governments and civic societies for abolishing nuclear weapons.

Receiving the delegation at the Egyptian mission, Counsellor Hossam Eldeen Aly said that it is an urgent task to realize a nuclear weapons-free world and that he is acutely aware that cooperation between government and civic society is essential.

Concerning the next NPT Review Conference in 2010, Aly said, “Egypt is willing to work for building consensus not conflict.”

At the Norwegian permanent mission, the Gensuikyo delegation expressed gratitude for the Norwegian foreign minister’s message to the 2008 World Conference against A and H Bombs.

Welcoming the Gensuikyo delegation, Senior Advisor Erling Skjonsberg of the Section for Disarmament and Non-proliferation of Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed willingness to continue to cooperate with Japan Gensuikyo for the shared goal of abolishing nuclear weapons.
