Club owners and lawyers on February 20 visited Dietmembers, calling for a support to their campaign to get “dancing” deleted from items to be regulated under the Entertainment Business Control Law.
This action was organized by the “Let’s DANCE Signature Promotion Committee.” They also requested lawmakers to introduce the petition to the Diet and help establish a parliamentarians’ league in support of the petition.
In his talks with Japanese Communist Party Lower House member Akamine Seiken, lawyer Nishikawa Ken’ichi stated that the law is out of date as it was enforced in 1948 when a dance hall was recognized as a place for prostitution.
A college student who is also a DJ said that clubs are places for music lovers to get together and expand their cultural circle. He expressed his concern that police crackdowns have put some clubs out of business.
Akamine promised that he will work with them to get the law revised.
