Top court dismisses ex-JAL contract CA’s appeal seeking reinstatement

November 5, 2013
The Supreme Court dismissed appeals from both sides against the high court ruling in a lawsuit in which a former JAL contract cabin attendant (CA) sought to return to her job, Akahata reported on November 4.

The top court decision finalized the Tokyo High Court ruling which approved Japan Airlines’ dismissal of the CA. The lower court also ordered the airline to pay her 200,000 yen in compensation by ruling that JAL’s harassment and forcible retirement request against her was illegal.

The plaintiff, a member of the Japan Airlines Cabin Crew Union, began her court battle in 2010, claiming that the airline unfairly terminated her contract after harrying her to quit her job.
