Obama’s Nobel Prize with recognition of‘a nuclear free world ’

October 10, 2009
U.S. President Barack Obama was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Committee on October 9 stated it recognized his vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Japan Council against A & H Bombs Secretary General Taka Hiroshi commented that the Nobel Committee must have attached importance to Obama’s action to propose “a world without nuclear weapons” as a goal for international politics.

Obama’s winning of the Nobel Peace Prize shows the expectation for him to achieve the abolition of nuclear weapons and encourages those who have called for their elimination, said Taka.

“However, ‘a world without nuclear weapons’ has just been announced as a goal. His Prize will be earned when he will act for and achieve this goal. We hope that President Obama will see with his own eyes the actual suffering and devastation brought about by the use of nuclear weapons by visiting Hiroshima and Nagasaki and boldly act to realize a total ban on nuclear weapons,” he added.
