Citizens-opposition candidates kick off their election campaigns in Nagano and Hiroshima

Official campaigning for an Upper House by-election in Nagano and a do-over Upper House election in Hiroshima, both slated for April 25, began. In Nagano, a united candidate backed by a civil group and opposition parties including the Japanese Communist Party, Hata Jiro (1st right) in his kick-off speech promised to boost PCR testing capacity and improve state support programs to protect people’s lives and livelihoods (Apr.8,2021/Nagano).
In Hiroshima, citizens-opposition candidate Miyaguchi Haruko appealed to voters for the need to put an end to the Liberal Democratic Party-style money politics by citing ex-LDP Upper House member Kawai Anri lost her seat after being convicted of vote-buying.
