Shii meets with Iranian ambassador at JCP head office
|
Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo met with the Iranian ambassador to Japan, Peiman Seadat, on March 30 at the JCP head office.
Ambassador Seadat said that numerous Iranian civilians including children have been killed in the U.S.-Israeli attacks, and requested that the JCP intensify its efforts to stop such inhumane airstrikes on civilian infrastructure.
Shii offered his condolences to the victims and stated that the JCP is demanding that the Japanese government: recognize the war launched by the U.S. and Israel as a violation of international law; urge the U.S. and Israeli governments to cease hostilities; and refrain from providing any support, including the dispatch of the Self-Defense Forces, for the U.S.-Israeli war of aggression.
Shii stated, “In order to prevent further casualties and resolve the Strait of Hormuz crisis, an immediate end to this illegal war is vital,” and emphasized the need for Iran and the United States to begin diplomatic negotiations to that end.
Shii noted that, as a prerequisite for initiating Iran-U.S. talks, the U.S. side should guarantee that it will cease the ongoing military campaign against Iran and refrain from conducting further attacks. He added, “The JCP is demanding that the Japanese government take this position and urge the U.S. administration to start negotiations with Iran.”
Ambassador Seadat stated that Iran is seeking not a “ceasefire” but an “end to the war”. The ambassador noted that Iran shares the prerequisite Shii has just outlined, and that if this condition is met, it would be possible for his country to proceed with diplomatic negotiations with the United States toward achieving an end to the war.
