JCP CC Chair Shii meets with Cuban ambassador to Japan
|
Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo met with Cuban Ambassador to Japan Gisera Garcia in Tokyo on September 7 and exchanged views on the situation in Cuba amid the U.S. tightening of sanctions.
At the outset of the meeting, Garcia thanked the JCP for sending representatives to the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP) and to the events commemorating the centennial of Fidel Castro’s birth which took place in Havana in August. She also thanked them for expressing solidarity with the Cuban people.
Shii, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the meeting and for the support he received from Ernesto Soberon Guzman, Cuba’s ambassador to the United Nations, during his participation in the NPT Review Conference in New York City in April.
Garcia said that the U.S. fuel blockade, which sanctions even third countries’ companies that have trade ties with Cuba, has tightened and is negatively affecting many aspects of social life, including healthcare, transportation, and production. She emphasized that children, especially infants, are suffering the most from the sanctions.
Shii said that he admires Cuba’s efforts to resist the inhumane U.S. acts that violate international law, including the long-standing economic blockade and the recent intensification of sanctions against Cuba.
He stated that the JCP will do its utmost to develop international solidarity and cooperation in defense of Cuba’s sovereignty.
