US soldier and base worker in Okinawa indicted for armed robbery

June 3, 2020

The Naha District Public Prosecutors Office on June 1 indicted a 21-year-old U.S. Army Private First Class and a 34-year-old man working for the U.S. Air Force for robbing a currency exchange shop in Chatan Town in Okinawa of about seven million yen.

According to the prosecutors office, in the afternoon of May 12, the two suspects committed armed robbery at the exchange shop. Threatening shop staff at knife point, they took away roughly 2.1 million Japanese yen and 46,600 U.S. dollars in cash.
