Shii holds talks with CPV politburo member

September 15, 2022

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on September 14 held talks with visiting Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) politburo member Truong Thi Mai, who heads the Organization Commission of the CPV Central Committee, at the JCP head office in Tokyo.

Mai offered her congratulations on the JCP’s 100th founding anniversary and expressed her hope for a further development of the two parties’ cooperation on the issue of protection of foreign workers’ rights as well as on other issues.

Shii thanked Mai for conveying her congratulations and expressed his wish for the advancement of inter-party cooperation, including achieving the success of a JCP-CPV theoretical exchange meeting scheduled to be held before the end of this year.

In addition, Shii explained the JCP’s diplomatic vision which attaches much value to ASEAN’s efforts as well as to the promotion of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). Shii said that he hopes to strengthen bilateral cooperation which the two parties have nurtured by jointly working on various tasks such as the establishment of a peace order in East Asia, the abolition of nuclear weapons, and the fight against the climate crisis.

Shii in particular expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s cooperation on the issue of the abolition of nuclear weapons with Vietnam President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s message of solidarity at the antinuke world conference in August.

Mai told Shii that Vietnamese are experiencing long-lasting damage from chemical weapons known as “Agent Orange” dropped by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War. Recalling her visit to Hiroshima, she stressed the importance of the abolition of nuclear weapons.

JCP Vice Chairs Ogata Yasuo (JCP International Commission Chair) and Kurabayashi Akiko (Upper House member) and Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam also took part in the talks.
