Shii talks with Cuban ambassador to Japan

October 18, 2022

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on October 17 held talks with Cuban Ambassador to Japan Miguel A Ramirez at the JCP head office.

At the beginning of the talks, the ambassador congratulated Shii on the centennial anniversary of the JCP founding, and expressed his hope for the friendly and sincere relationship with the JCP to be further developed.

Welcoming the ambassador's visit, Shii extended his sympathy regarding the hurricane damage Cuba suffered in late September. He said that he admires the effort Cuba has been making under the draconian economic sanctions imposed by the United States and hopes to increase cooperation with Cuba in regard to the issue of nuclear weapons abolition.

The ambassador emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of the elimination of nuclear weapons, explaining the Latin America nuclear-weapons-free zone treaty (Tlatelolco Treaty) and the "Zone of Peace" declaration by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). He talked about the characteristics of Lain America's history up to this day.

Since the ambassador knows much about Asia, they also talked about issues in East Asia. Shii spoke about the JCP's "diplomatic vision" and the ambassador stated that he "already read" related JCP books and materials.

They shared the understanding that efforts to build a comprehensive framework of peace without the resort to military action will be contribute to peace-building in Asia and the rest of the world.
